The Alimony Reform Act of 2011 was signed into law by Governor Deval Patrick on September 26, 2011. The Alimony Reform Act will enter into effect on March 1, 2012. This legislation is designed to add greater fairness and predictability to alimony awards in Massachusetts. Under the Alimony Reform Act, complaints for modification of existing alimony awards may be based on the new law according to a time line specified in the law, with the earliest date for any such modifications being March 1, 2013.
